UCI and Eneco Tour join forces in sustainability
Eneco Tour
The international cycling union UCI and Eneco Tour have joined forces in order to reach more sustainability in the field of professional cycling events. The Eneco Tour adopts the existing worldwide sustainability program 'UCI reCycling'.
The Eneco Tour organizers, mainsponsor Eneco and the UCI will also start research in ways to further develop the reCycling program. The experience over the last four years in sustainable operations of the Eneco Tour will be used. Next to that they will be advising the UCI on measures possible for cycling, based on the knowledge build up in The Netherlands and Belgium.

For sustainability of cycling races attention is needed for the transport of the organization, cyclists and fans, accommodations for organization and teams, energy supply, water usage and waste management. By taking climate footprint into account in the planning of stages, big steps can be taken. Over the last four years in the Eneco Tour the focus on these items has led to a reduction of 25% in carbon dioxide footprint. UCI, Eneco and Eneco Tour expect that this cooperation will lead to a further urge to get professional cycling to a more sustainable level.
