The UCI is pleased to announce that age group winners of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series events, as well as defending UCI Gran Fondo world champions, will benefit from increased recognition at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in Varese (ITA) from 29 August to 2 September.

During the 2018 World Championships, riders who won their respective age groups during the season's 21 qualifier events, as well as the defending age group world champions from Albi 2017, will benefit from special access to the first row of each start group, in order to recognize riders' performances throughout the season.

The start of the road race in Varese, which will be held on Sunday 2 September, will be given in the city center on Via Luigi Sacco. After a short neutralized section at the start of the race, until riders reach the roundabout at Piazza Monte Grappa, the real action will start with riders benefiting from wide dedicated roads and hitting the first of many challenging climbs at KM 13.
