ING Globerunners
ING has also established a worldwide sponsoring programme for long distance running. The philosophy behind this is to support quality competitions aimed at top athletes and the general public.
The ING Globerunners programme was launched in 2003 and currently has seven large crowd pullers: the ING Taipei Marathon (19 December 2004), the ING Temple Run Marathon in Bangkok (19 March 2005), the ING Ottawa Marathon (30 May 2005), the ING Edmonton Marathon (20 August 2005), the ING Brussels Marathon (28 August 2005), ING Amsterdam Marathon (16 October 2005) and the ING New York City Marathon (6 November 2005).
ING Running Tour in Belgium
ING has entrusted the organisation of this latest tour to Octagon cis. Octagon cis has tremendous amount of experience and expertise in organising competitions. This sports marketing agency organises the CrossCup, de Nacht van de Atletiek (The Athletics Night), the Flanders Indoor Gent and a number of other road races.
The Koninklijke Belgische Atletiekbond (Royal Belgian Athletics Confederation), which was already an ING Running Tour partner in 2004, has signed an agreement with Octagon cis. It will continue to support the ING Running Tour as the official body.
The meeting with the athletes and their enthusiasm are the inspiration behind ING's determination to aim even higher. Seven competitions in six large cities in Belgium to take place between April and September.
ING Run for something better
ING is dedicated not just to sport. During the last ING Running Tour a decision was taken to donate a part of the registration monies to two charities whose goal is to encourage the integration of people with handicaps: Special Olympics Belgium and To Walk Again.
Each year the Special Olympics Belgium organises the national games for mentally handicapped people. An event where every athlete is a winner.
To Walk Again, founded by triathlete Marc Herremans, supports research into spinal chord injuries, and its aim is ultimately to enable lame people to walk again.
Both associations received a generous sum of no less than 25,000 Euro from the ING Running Tour 2004.
ING is very pleased that this partnership goes beyond more than providing mere financial support. A number of Special Olympics athletes have already participated in the ING Running Tour 2004 competitions and a race for hand-bikers was integrated into the ING Brussels Marathon. And this year yet again there will be a hand-bike marathon on the programme. The ING Running Tour truly is an event for everyone.
