The men's 4x400m race is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the Night of Athletics on 22 July in Heusden-Zolder. The Belgian Tornados will show up at full strength, but they?ll face fierce competition.

Coach Jacques Borlee is bringing two Belgian team to the event in Limburg. His intention is to form one team around the Borlee brothers. Based on the performances at the Night of Athletics Jacques Borlee will then decide which Belgian Tornados will accompany Jonathan, Kevin and Dylan at the August world championships in London.

The Borlee brothers will also compete individually at the Night of Athletics. Whether they will run the 200 or 400 metres has not been confirmed yet.

National selection heading to De Veen

In addition to a second Belgian team, several other national teams are heading to Heusden-Zolder. Japan, Kenya, the Netherlands and Italy will all be represented with their 4x400 metre teams. The Dutch are in great shape. Their team ran a new national record at the recent EuropaCup for national teams, a 3:02.37. The previous Dutch record was nearly 40 years old.

Kenya will also be one of the teams to keep an eye on. They ran a 3:05.91 earlier this year but individually their runners are each worth 45:00. A new Kenyan record is definitely on the cards.
