Worlds tickets for Rans, PB for Borlée
At the Meeting international d'athlétisme de la Province de Liège, pole vault jumper Kevin Rans has secured his ticket for the WC. Kevin Borlée ran a personal best at the 200m.
In his second attempt
Rans
topped 5m63, the Worlds limit, and won the event. The 26 year old Rans is the
tenth Belgian athlete already to make it to the WC. Others
are Jonathan and Kevin Borlée (400m),
Eline Berings en Elisabeth Davin (100m
hurdles), Adrien Deghelt (110m hurdles), Tom Van
Hooste (marathon), Denis Goossens (pole vault),
Svetlana Bolshakova (high jump) en Tom
Goyvaerts (javelin).
With 20.94 Kevin Borlée finished second at the 200m, after the Jamaican Ainsley Waugh (20.84), and also ran a new personal best.
The two 100m series were won by the Nigerian Egwero Oghoogheneonano (10.33) and the Ghanese Aziz Zakari (10.27). The American Kirkland Thornton (13.42) won the 110m hurdles, beating Belgian Adrien Deghelt (13.64). Damien Broothaerts came in fourth in 13.69. Erison Hurtault from the Dominican Republic won the 300m in 32.88.
At the 800m the Kenyan Reuben Bett was the fastest in 1:46.01. At the 300m the entire podium turned Kenyan with Josphay Bett, Jacob Chesari and Boniface Kirui. The high jump was won by Kabelo Kgosiemang (2m27). Stijn Stroobants finished 9th with 2m15.
BERINGS FASTEST IN HURDLES EVENT
Eline Berings
was the fastest at the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.01. Elisabet
Davin finished fourth (13.18), Anne
Zagré sixth (13.25).
At the 100m, the same Anne Zagré succeeded in getting the time limit for the EC for junior at the Serbian Novi Sad (23-26/07) with a time of 11.68.
In another series of the 100m Olivia Borlée and Elisabeth Davin respectively clocked 11.62 and 11.72, too far from any ticket for the Worlds in Berlin (11.35). The series were won by Emma Ania (11.41) and Laverne Jones (11.28)
Sara Aerts took part in both the 200m, won by the American Stephanie Durst in 23.03, and the long jump, won by the Ukrainian Oleksandra Stadnuyk (6m31). Aerts put in a 7th time and a 5th performance respectively.
The American Brenda Martinez won the 800m in 2:01.03. Her compatriot Renee Baillie outsprinted everyone at the 5000m in 15:20.53.
