Manuel Quinziato (BMC) was delighted with his victory in Geraardsbergen, but had to go to the limit. "I was going to win or die", was his response.
Quinziato decided the race on the Denderoordberg, the penultimate climb of the day. Leukemans and Lampaert came dangerously close at the end. "I didn't want to look behind, but I did it anyway. From that moment I was going to win or die. I'm very happy I made it after a fourth place last year."
The 35-year-old Italian opted for an early breakaway. "On Saturday I tried to keep a good position in the classification, but that didn't work out. That's why I went for the stage win today. I wasn't planning to go early, but suddenly I was in that group of 14."
