Nizzolo: 'I thought Roelandts had won'
Belga
Jurgen Roelandts thought that he had won the fifth stage in the Eneco Tour. But Giacomo Nizzolo, who actually place first, was also under that impression. Nizzolo did not hear of his victory until he got in the bus.
"When I crossed the finish line, I thought: Roelandts won", Nizzolo says. "So I went to the bus quite angry. It was there that I heard that I was the victor. Of course I was happy and relieved. In the final stage, I got ahead (too) early and I was afraid Roelandts had overtaken me. Luckily, that was not the case. This is my third victory and again, it was in Belgium. Yes, Belgium does work well for me. This victory in the Eneco Tour is my greatest ever. When I got up this morning, I didn't think I would win in Aalter. But I knew it was possible, after all, I already placed third yesterday."
Nizzolo is fast, but later on, he wants to prove himself on other points as well. "Right now, I'm a sprinter, but I hope to evolve in the future. I want to do well in the classics such as the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. But it's my dream to win Milan - San Remo. As a Milanese person, the Primavera beats all. For me, Boonen is a good example", Nizzolo said.
